Beautiful old school house in the heart of Wallander country in Sweden for sale
Escape the drudgery of the UK and start a new life in a country with one of the highest living standards in the World
Fed up with the rat race in the UK? Sick and tired of sitting in traffic jams all the time? Had enough of waiting weeks to see a Doctor? Worried about letting your kids play outside? Totally depressed at living in a box but can't afford to buy anywhere bigger?
This is how we felt in 2006 so we emigrated to the South of Sweden to start a new life in a beautiful old school house in the countryside. After 7 amazing years of living there we have now moved to Switzerland to live in the mountains so our old school house is now up for sale.
The house is located just outside of Tomelilla in an area of Sweden called Osterlen. This is the area where the BBC filmed Wallander with Sir Kenneth Branagh so you may already be familiar with the amazing landscapes and quaint Swedish villages with their colourful little houses. Indeed. this is the Swedish equivalent of Cornwall where many Swedish people make their holidays. Beautiful fishing villages like Kivik and Brantevik are just 20 minutes away and there are miles and miles of white sandy beaches which are ideal for a family walk or for an afternoon lazing in the Summer sun.
Tomelilla is about 45 minutes from the city of Malmö where there is a good International school providing all tuition in English. They use the International Baccalaurate curricula which is considered one of the highest standards in the World and is accepted by all Universites. So. you probably think that a high quality education in an International School would be expensive. Well. the tuition is completely free of charge … yes. you read it right. free of charge!
Life in Sweden is much more relaxed than the UK. There is hardly any traffic on the roads and it is clean and tidy everywhere. Everything functions as it should. The trains run on time. you can see a doctor the same day when you are ill and the hospitals are like 4 star hotels with all the very best equipment. Health care is completely free of charge just like it is in the UK. except it is of a much higher standard. Sweden is a much safer country so you can feel free to let the kids play outside and enjoy their childhoods like we did when we were young.
You are probably worried about the language. You need not be. Almost everyone apart from a very few of the elderly speak absolutely fluent English both face to face and on the phone. In addition. all TV programs are broadcast in original language and many BBC and ITV programs are shown. Hence. you will have a wide choice of English TV entertainment. The Satellite Dish and HD receiver/recorder are included in the sale. Copenhagen in Denmark is 1 hour drive away and together with Malmö there are many opportunities for work in a variety of industries. There is a large English community in these cities so there are good opportunities to serve them. Indeed. if you have any sort of building or carpentry skills you would have plenty of work as there is a huge shortage of these skills. In addition. the house for sale is huge so you could even set up a Bed and Breakfast business catering for the booming tourist trade. Or what about offering Wallander tours to the sites from the series?
The Swedes can be a bit shy to start with but once they know you they are very good friends. Indeed the neighbours at this house are wonderful. kind people who are great fun to be with. Before long you will be joining them eating meatballs and drinking schnapps outside in the long evenings of Summer.
So. what's the catch? A large house for a bargain price in an almost idyllic living environment. After 7 years of living in Sweden we can honestly say there is no catch. It is dark in the Winters but no more so than in the North of England or Scotland. There are 4 very distinct seasons and we liked that as a family as there would be snow every Winter and hot days every Summer with the colourful days of Spring and Autumn in between.
So. now a few words about the house. The house has 2 living rooms. One of these is the old school hall and it is huge. This is a wonderful room for entertaining and with the very efficient stone fireplace it was a room we used all year round. The second living room was used for watching television and there is a beautiful cast iron stove in there for nice. cosy evenings watching the latest movies. There is also a separate dining room and an Italian country style designer kitchen which we installed just 4 years ago. There is also a large bathroom / laundry room downstairs with a shower. Also downstairs is a very large bedroom with views over the wonderful countryside. Upstairs there are 4 further bedrooms and a modern bathroom which was installed just 2 years ago. Pictures speak more than a thousand words. so check them out yourself to see what a beautiful home this is with high quality fixtures and fittings.
The Winters in Sweden are cold so the house has a very efficient heating system. There is a large boiler supplying large radiators in all the rooms. The boiler burns wood pellets which are cheap. readily available and very environmentally friendly. We burned wood logs in the fireplaces in the house which are also very cheap and readily available. We were never cold in all the years we lived there.
Outside there is a very large garage and workshop as well as another small garage where we stored the wood for the Winter. There is also a very large mature garden with plenty of space for children to play. Included in the same price is a ride-on lawnmower which is sure to bring a smile to the face of any grown man! In the garden is also a large Summer house.
So that's it! If you have any questions at all about the house or life in Sweden please call or send a mail. What are you waiting for? The rest of your life begins here.
