The main cottage is grade II listed and brimming over with character and charm. With our son. we have had many happy years in this cottage. raising ducklings (we hatched 9 and watched them swimming in the pond - video available!). watching deer and birds and rabbits and watching ponies trotting down the lane. It really was an idyllic location for our family. especially with a young child.
The cottage sits in grounds of almost 2 acres. including a wood with bluebells. a pond and several streams with five separate bridges across. The garden is wonderful with lawns. a meadow. fruit trees. magnolia bushes and roses among many other plants.
The property is set down a quiet country lane just outside Weald village. but is a short 10 minute drive to Sevenoaks train station - making London an easy commute. It is near to some of the best schools in the country. including the highly regarded Sevenoaks School and New Beacon boys' school. Though the cottage seems set in the middle of the deepest countryside. we have neighbours (wonderful ones) within a five minute walk and Sevenoaks is very near - also Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells a short drive along the A21. It really is the best of all worlds - peaceful country living and a short drive to towns and shopping.
The cottage has three bedrooms with high ceilings and beautiful original ships' oak beams on one side. As well as oil-fired central heating. the cottage has an AGA cooker in addition to an electric cooker. In the lounge. there is a newly installed. huge and totally wonderful Nordpeis N25 wood burning stove. which opens out to give the effect of an open fireplace. The lounge has French doors to the garden. There is another open fireplace in the dining room. which features more original beams. The kitchen has charming original beams. an original cold larder and lovely wooden cabinets which have just been repainted. An original stable door opens out into the garden with gorgeous views. There is one main bathroom with shower and bath and a toilet and washroom downstairs.
The annexe also has an AGA - converted from oil to electric power - in addition to normal central heating. Everything else is brand new in the annexe - it was completed this year. It has a huge lounge and open plan kitchen. with two very large bedrooms and one smaller one which could also be an office. There are stable doors leading to a paved patio. The annexe has perfect rental potential or even as a B&B for an enterprising family. It is also perfect as a place for ageing parents to live or for teenagers needing their own space.
There is a cobble driveway with parking for two or three cars and a parking space across the lane for another one or two cars.
